Description
As a result of the heat-treatment, the oak wood has a darker colouring that is usually only seen after years of natural aging. The wood grain structure is also slightly more pronounced than untreated oak.
The material can be used wherever darker wood colour is desired. Unlike varnishes or stains, the colouring is even throughout the entire cross section of the wood. It can be used as flooring, for furniture manufacture and interior fittings as well as a variety of outdoor uses.
The heat-treatment permanently alter the properties of the wood: the moisture level and receptivity towards moisture is reduced. Shrinkage and expansion even by strong moisture fluctuations are much less pronounced than untreated wood and the wood exhibits higher durability.
In contrast the bending and cleavage strength reduces, the wood becomes more brittle. Heat-treated wood is therefore not suited for load-bearing and constructional timber. The wood can, however, be used outdoors as well as in rooms with high moisture levels (bathrooms, rooms with underfloor heating).
Other wood types produce other wood colourings – ash, maple, birch, pine and larch are also available.
