All-through colored wood
Description The wood compression procedure can also be used to colour impregnate wood. The compressed wood will have wood cells with intact cell walls but with open end membranes. In this way the wood becomes exceptionally absorbent to fluids.
When compressed wood is placed in a color bath, the wood will ease back to its original size while the wood cells are flooded entirely with colors. The result is a completely all through colored wood material. The color pigments used must be small enough to pass through the open cell membranes.
After pigmentation, the wood can be compressed again to improve strength and hardness. The colour tone and distribution is not adversely affected.
Applications - primarily for indoor use
- parquet flooring and stairs
- furniture
- interior design
