Lightweight chipboard from hemp shavings
Description
This lightweight panel is made of hemp shavings, a by-product of hemp processing works. The panel is considerably lighter than most other typical boards with equivalent working properties. The boards can be used wherever lightness is a prerequisite.
The processing of hemp fibres has a long tradition. Hemp fibres are particularly resilient and in many cases are better suited for paper production than wood. Hemp was an important raw material in the past for making ropes and textiles (sailcloth).
For many years the cultivation of hemp was forbidden in many countries, although only certain kinds of cannabis can be used for making intoxicating drugs. Since the mid 1990s commercial hemp cultivation (Cannabis Sativa) is now permitted in Germany.
